Nomadic trails

Low impact modes of transport and herdsmen, the experts give you a first hand experience of moving a camp in more traditional way. Camel and yak carts are used on this trip. We will carry a ger, which is the traditional felt tent that Mongols live in today. Essentially, it means that we can use the services of the local people living in the area where we travel. The herdsmen are the experts and we will be able to get a first hand experience of how to move a camp the traditional Mongolian way.

Day 1. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar

Day 2. Drive to Zorgol Khairkhan Mountain

Days 3 - 5. Camel trek in Bayan Unjuul area (Camel cart journey)

Day 6. Drive to Terelj via Ulaanbaatar

Days 7 - 9. Terelj National Park (Yak cart journey)

Day 10. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar

Day 11. Departure

Day 1. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar
Guests will be met at the airport and transferred to the hotel. After some rest enjoy a city sightseeing tour.  This city tour will introduce you Ganddan Monastery – Mongolian Buddhist center, the central city square,  Zaisan Memorial – an elevated hill. And choose to visit one museum. Dine out tonight at restaurant in Ulaanbaatar. Overnight at hotel... B/L/D

Day 2. Drive to Bayan Unjuul

We start driving to the south from Ulaanbaatar until we reach Zorgolkhairkhan, the highest peak in the region with outstanding rock formations. Here we meet with the camel herdsmen and pitch our camp on the steppe. Overnight in ger camp... B/L/D

Day 3, 4 and 5. Camel trek in Bayan Unjuul area (Camel cart journey)
We continue travelling on the steppe for the next 3 days supported by camel carts. There will be some more riding camels according to your wish. On the way we visit families to learn about their lifestyle. Overnights at camp... B/L/D

Day 6. Drive to Terelj National Park via Ulaanbaatar
Today’s driving will take you to upper Tuul river valley in the Terelj National Park. This aare is rich in both plant and animal species with imposing mountain ranges covered by trees and a beautiful steppe valley where there are many herdsmen with their livestock.

Day 7, 8 and 9. Trekking in Terelj National Park (Yak cart journey)
We travel for 3 full days towards the Khentii wilderness accompanied by our Mongol staff on horseback. We will use yaks to pull the traditional wooden carts on which all our equipment will be loaded and transported.  No support vehicles will be required, nor are they practical in the area where we are to travel.

Day 10. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast transfer back to Ulaanbaatar. Free afternoon at your leisure. The evening program will be Folk group performance followed by a dinner in one of the best restaurants of Ulaanbaatar. Overnight at hotel... B/L/D

Day 11. Departure

Transportation: This tour is supported by Russian minibus and somewhere supported by camel carts and yak carts. Supporting team comprises an interpreter/guide, driver/mechanic, cook and local guides(takes care of the horses, camels and yaks)

Accommodation: Two nights at a centrally located two star hotel in Ulaanbaatar, two nights in ger camps in the countryside and the rest of the nights on tented camping.  Ger camp provides customers with restaurant services and washing facilities and always located at the best scenic spot of a tourist attraction site. Campsites can be selected for their scenic beauty and convenience.

Ger is a traditional dwelling which has stood the test of time being an ideal accommodation for nomadic way of life, easily assembled when dismantled takes up small space. A ger consists of felt covers, wooden columns and poles and lattice wall part.

Food: During your stay in cities and towns, you are served with standard European meals for your breakfast, lunch and supper. In the countryside, you have mostly very good Mongolian standard meals (some say Russian styled) where you stay.

Other equipment and supplies: Two-man and larger tents are provided along with mats, pillows and blankets for outdoor stays. However you should bring your own sleeping bag.
